PALMSHIELD ARCHITECTURAL SCREENING
PalmSHIELD has been in the architectural and mechanical screening industry for 50+ years — designing, engineering, and installing the panels that help conceal items not intended for public view. That’s in addition to our itinerary on rooftop screenings and commercial and industry gates. PalmSHIELD’s products can be found across the U.S., from Yellowstone Forest to the Grand Canyon, and we have earned a reputation as the premier architectural screening solution in Cedar Rapids, IA and the Midwest.
ARCHITECTURAL SCREENING IN CEDAR RAPIDS, IA
Picture Frame Design
Our expert designers at PalmSHIELD use top notch software for putting together schematics of how your architectural screening will look. We use Picture Frame Design for screening (architectural and rooftop) as well gates, and each panel is constructed to stand without becoming warped out of shape. PalmSHIELD panels are also easy to remove/reinstall and offer excellent ventilation. PalmSHIELD can be also be configured as screens, rooftop screenings, grills, and gates (swing gates as well as slide gates).
An industry leader when it comes to cable railings in Cedar Rapids, PalmSHIELD specializes in application systems for both interior and exterior venues, and we have designed a cable system of our own. Featuring a welded frame or field assembled design, the system can be modified according to changes in elevation and direction. Each railing needs 10 or cables to reach tension surpassing a half-ton, so a fully framed system is necessary.
The gorilla hinge is an original industrial line designed by our team of professionals here at PalmSHIELD. These hinges use 1/2″ plates for mounting both gates and gate posts and feature a slight offset that allows the gate to close slightly past the closed position — a helpful feature to avoid situations wherein the posts are off the mark (even by a fraction of an inch), causing the gate to not close properly.
LOUVERED SCREENING SPECS
PalmSHIELD’s louvered screenings are custom fabricated, allowing you to determine the amount of visibility and air flow. (This is done with adjustments to spacing between louvers during the fabrication process.) Louvers can be placed horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. PalmSHIELD is also unique in that we provide the industries’ widest louver:
- .1250 thickness
- 2” x 2.873” tall installed profile
In addition to a larger profile, PalmSHIELD’s louvers are sloped, which permits airflow and reduces visibility. PalmSHIELD also offers a broad selection on square welded, perforated metal, and woven wire mesh — in addition to a number of options on grating infill. 3″ x 3″ x 1/4″ angle vertical supports are used, to which each louver is welded. Our welded wire mesh, perforated metal, and grating is shop welded to meet IBC and UBC codes. Because of the larger vertical support, PalmSHIELD provides a 2 ¾” weldable surface to attach louvers to the frame.
What makes PalmSHIELD Cedar Rapids’s top architectural screening system is the use of a 3” x 3” x ¼” angle top and bottom caps. Most systems do not provide rigid top caps, which are essential to protecting panels from falling debris, hail, etc. The bottom cap protects the screening from foot traffic and mowers. Vertical supports and horizontal caps are welded together, forming the industry’s only picture frame design. PalmSHIELD uses a 2” x 1/8” aluminum flat bar not to exceed 24” apart to support the louvers between the framework. Larger than most systems, PalmSHIELD uses a 4” square x ¼” or 3/8” wall post. Posts typically do not exceed 60” on center. Larger, thicker walled posts can withstand high winds and heavy snow loads. Nuts, bolts and fasteners are made of stainless steel, and swing gates incorporated use only our gorilla hinges.
However, preparation of materials is the most fundamental part of coating. One fabrication has been complete, the materials are sweep blasted and powder coated — removing foreign debris and opening the aluminum for adhesion. PalmSHIELd also offers custom colors.
